Burlap Bag - Inspiration in the Ordinary

Five years.

Five years have flown by since a chance meeting with a small group of creatives that led to an idea born to bring inspiration and with it a platform of creativity for fellow artists. It is difficult to fathom that the first blog post for the Traveling Dress Collective was published in 2016. Since that time, hundreds of people have taken part in their own projects and shared their results with us all.

It has been humbling to see how many of you have participated and where you have taken this project. The images have told stories, blown our minds, left us in awe, and solidified the community among us.

Five years has also given us plenty of time to reflect on our direction and future. The scope of the Traveling Dress Collective is something we would love to see evolve and diversify as we all continue to grow and change. We encourage our participants to think beyond what we initially began and expand the vision to include more than just a ‘pretty dress.’ Our perspectives are so unique and full of opportunity, we would never want to place limitations on where we can go with our ideas and creative energy.

On our end, we as curators of this space, have talked at great length about the possibilities we would love to bring forward. We will share these new exciting opportunities in upcoming posts, so please stay tuned.

This particular blog post is giving us a chance to introduce the Traveling Dress Team that we will have moving forward. With this team, we hope to reinvigorate the energy of the Traveling Dress Collective and respond to the many submissions we receive with quicker turnaround and vigor.

We are also taking this opportunity to showcase images that we, as a group, created with a simple burlap bag. This series of images may be considered atypical to previous blog posts but it highlights where groups can go with their ideas and creativity. So without further ado…
